What We Do
At MRI Uganda, we focus on:
- Developing portable low-field MRI systems.
- MRI hardware design and prototyping.
- RF coil and electronics development.
- MRI software and image reconstruction.
- Medical image processing and artificial intelligence.
- Clinical translation and validation.
- Capacity building through student training and mentorship.
- International collaborative research in MRI science and engineering
Why MRI Matters
Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools in modern medicine. It enables clinicians to visualize the brain, spine, muscles, joints, and internal organs without exposing patients to ionizing radiation.
Despite its importance, access to MRI remains limited in many African countries due to the high cost and complexity of conventional MRI systems. MRI Uganda is woking to bridge this gap by developing technologies that are specifically designed for resource-limited environments
Research Areas
- Low-field MRI technology
- MRI hardware engineering
- Permanent magnet systems
- RF engineering
- Pulse sequence development
- MRI signal processing
- Image reconstruction
- Artificial Intelligence for medical imaging
- Portable medical technologies
Partnerships and Collaborations
MRI Uganda collaborates with universities, hospitals, research institutes, and international organizations to accelerate innovation and expand access to MRI technology. Through these partnerships, we combine expertise in engineering, medicine, physics, and computer science to develop practical solutions for global health challenges
